Exam season is upon us and that means its time to start doing what all of us to best- Procrastinate. And yes, procrastination is a great source of extremely relatable memes and bonding sessions with our friends. But it is also a source of resentment and self-loathing for all of us which leads to last minute stress and panic. To prevent this, this exam season follow the following tips to fool your brain into feeling productive and lessen your last minute panic attacks.
1.Assess your syllabus and break it down
Go over whatever readings you have to do. Write them down in order of priority and then make a second list in order of length. Match the lists and make a third one with the shortest readings in the beginning in order of priority and the longest readings in the end again in order of priority. Assign days to each reading and try to finish the smaller ones first. This will give you an illusion of productivity because you will feel better knowing you have done 5 small chapters instead of one long one.
2. Set small goals
Set realistic and small goals. Know your capacity. If you have enough days start by giving small readings one day each and longer ones two days. Each day set a goal. You can take a 30-minute break but only after doing 10 pages.
3. Write a to-do list
Write down each small task you have to do every day and remember to strike it off afterward. Even if it is reading 5 pages, the striking off aspect will give you motivation and a sense of satisfaction once the task is over.
4. Set reminders
Set reminders on your phone for your task and they will ping and remind you to do it. Reminders can get very annoying because they appear throughout the day reminding you to do the task and asking if you’ve completed it or not. Once you press complete you feel as if a burden is off of you and it helps you feel more accountable.
5. Get new stationary
An incredibly superficial but successful tip is to get new stationary. Having a new set of pens, a new ruled notebook really makes you feel like you have your life together and makes you want to write on it immediately. Get sticky notes, highlighters and post-it bookmarks to help make you feel more organized and inclined to read just so you can use them.
There you have it. A few tips to help you feel more productive and actually get some work done before the last day.
