Ratan Tata is one of the leading Indian industrialists, ex-Chairman of the largest Indian conglomerate, Tata Group of Companies. He currently holds the post of Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group which controls major companies including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Consultancy Services, Indian Hotels and Tata Teleservices.
Brought up by his grandmother from the age of ten after his parents separated, he became actively involved in the family business after completing his graduation.
He received his early education from the Campion School, Mumbai and finished his schooling from the Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai. In 1962, he obtained his B.S. in architecture with structural engineering from Cornell University, U.S.A. Later he got enrolled at the Harvard Business School and completed his Advanced Management.
With his impeccable leadership skills, Tata Group reached new heights to become a global brand across the world. The group acquired many big brands under his leadership such as Tetley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Corus, etc. Tata consultancy services were built under the vision of his leadership.
Ratan Tata received the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 and Padma Bhushan in 2000, the respective second and third highest civilian honours awarded by the Government of India. It was his dedication that made Tata Groups what it is today. The legacy that he was given was owned and fertilised by him in a manner that a lot of young entrepreneurs still look up to him.
