Events Tailor-made for Sports Fanatics at SNU’s Breeze’16

BREEZE is the annual techno-cultural & sports fest of Shiv Nadar University. The Sports fest boasts of tournaments in Cricket, Football, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball and Badminton to sports like Chess and Table-Tennis. Here’s a conclusive list of the events:

1) Court Is In Session (Basketball) (Boys and Girls)

This Breeze, LeBrons and the Blazejowskis have been invited to put the ball through the hoop. If you can dribble around the court like a boss and fancy winning 20000 bucks for it then let the Breeze sweep you away.

Rules:

  • Each game consists of four quarters of 10 minutes.
  • If the scores are tied at the end of the fourth quarter, overtime periods of five minutes will be played until one team has more points than the other (at the end of the 5-minute period).
  • All FIBA rules will be followed.

Venue and Time:

Group Stages on Friday (4th November)

From 10 AM

In Basketball Courts, SNU.

Prize:

2) Leave It All On The Field (Football)

If you believe that hustle and hit never quit, the field for you at Breeze ’16 has been set. All those training days for hours and the corny slogans coined in the locker room are finally ready to see the light of the day. Offense will be your spear and defense will get you the game.

Rules:

  • 11 A side Football tournament
  • Duration of match:

Group Stage: 25-5-25 minutes

Knockout Stages: 35-5-35 minutes

Venue and Time:

Group Stages On Friday (4th November.)

From 10 AM

At The Football Field, SNU.

Prize:

First prize: Rs. 24000

Second prize: Rs. 12000

3) You Got Served (Tennis) (Boys and Girls)

This is your chance to let your inner Federer out. Breeze will provide you with the perfect opportunity to slam your way to glory. So gear up and let your racquet do the talking.

Rules:

  • Each tie is contested in a best-of-three match format.
  • It consists of three matches: Singles match, then a doubles match and if the need be a reverse singles match. First team to secure 2 wins off 3 matches wins the tie.

4) Welcome To The Block Party (Volleyball) (Boys and Girls)

Tight spandex and tighter spikes, if you can set it in the air and hit in anywhere then this tournament is for you.

Rules:

  • Each League match will be a best-of-three sets, for 25 points each.
  • The knock-out matches will be a best-of-five sets for 25 points each
  • All rules according to FIVB

Time and Venue:

At: Volleyball Court, SNU.

5) You Can Cut The Tension With A Wicket Stump (Cricket)

If your heart strums every time Dhoni hits the helicopter and you’re sure that your cover drive can match that of Kohli, if you have a Wall for an opener and your length gets you the maidens then don the blue (or red, green, yellow etc.) and have your own moment kissing the cup.

Rules:

  • All ICC rules to be followed.
  • All matches will be of 15 overs each except for finals which will be of 20 overs.
  • All matches will be played with white ball, so all teams are expected to come in colored kits.

Time and Venue:

Group Stages On Thursday (3rd November.)

From 7 AM

At The Cricket Field, SNU.

6) Can You Make A Bird Fly? (Badminton) (Boys and Girls)

If you’re not afraid to make a little racket, then this Breeze you can put 10000 bucks in your pocket. A shoutout to all the Nehwals and Bhupatis out there to let their rackets swing.

Rules:

  • Each tie would consist of three matches, First singles, Doubles, Reverse Singles, in that order.
  • Each match would be a best of 3 sets (15 points each) during pool stage and 3 sets (21 points each) during semi-finals and finals.
  • Time-out of 90 seconds is provided between each set.
  • Referee’s decision would be final and binding. The shuttle must be hit below the server’s waist with the racquet head below the server’s hand, and the server must have part of both feet stationary in contact with the ground.
  • All BWF Rules would be followed.

7) Believe In Your Moves (Chess)

If you can make 1001 blunders and still get in a checkmate, here’s your chance to step up to the board. Wage war and take victims because this is the time to let your inner Vishwanathan shine.

Rules:

  • The game will be played between 2 players from different teams.
  • A team consists of 3 players who will play, and 1 substitute may be there.
  • Pairing will be done by the Swiss Perfect.
  • The game will be played for 60 minutes, i.e. each player gets 30 minutes to finish their game.
  • Latest FIDE rules will be followed strictly. In case of any discrepancy, Arbiter’s decision is final.

8) Paddle Faster: I Hear Banjos (Table Tennis) (Boys And Girls)

If you believe you can lock eyes with your opponent and smash around the ball faster than the speed of light, then this one’s for you.

Rules:

  • 3 players in each team + 1 extra
  • Matches will be of ABC XYZ format I.e A-X B-Y C-Z A-Y B-X
  • All matches will be best of 5 sets for 11 points each.
