If you are a 12th class student awaiting your Board results, chances are you are already bored of sitting idly. While the Board exam results take their time to reach you, you can productively use this time for enhancing your knowledge, skills and experience. Getting out of school and into college, you will meet a lot of people with so many different perspectives, it would be great if you have something to talk about, other than just your school experience. Here are a few handy ideas to enable you to feel less idle and more engaged:
- Binge-watch movies and TV shows
You might think binge-watching is bad for you, but if you watch the right kind of shows and movies, you will end up learning so much. There is a teeming variety of shows in every genre, be it situational comedies like our all-time favorite F.R.I.E.N.D.S., political thrillers like House of Cards, the famous ones like Sherlock with a witty protagonist or the lesser known The Mentalist, or cartoon shows like The Simpsons or Bojack Horseman, there is a show for every person and every mood. You can find the best movies online too, and the best way to go about it is by watching movies and documentaries about your area of interest.
Reading never goes out of style, and like movies, you are spoilt for choice of genre. From bestsellers to classics, right now is the best time to inculcate a habit of reading, if you haven’t already. It will only help later in college!
If you are keen on getting hands-on experience in the field of your choice, you can apply for internships. There aren’t many internships out there for school graduates, but all it takes is dropping an email or making a call. You might just have fun while you learn. Not to mention, the experience will give you a lot of tings to talk about in college, in class and among your peer group.
- Take an Online Course
The internet is always at your rescue. If you’d rather stay indoors in the scorching heat, there are a plethora of websites like Udemy, edx.com, Skill Share, etc that provide Massive Open Online Courses, also called MOOCs. You can choose from a variety of courses, and can also learn any skill, from Photoshop to Photography, to Coding and whatnot.
This is almost a cliche, but travelling broadens your perspective unlike anything else. Among other things, it builds your confidence and adds multitudes to your experience, irrespective of whether you decide to go on a backpacking trip, go river rafting, climb up a trek, or just chill at a beach!
