DU’s decision to go completely online with the registrations for admissions this year does not seem to be boding well with them. As anxious DU UG aspirants wait for their Board results, the application portal for DU seems to be overloaded with an influx of a larger number of applications than anticipated.
According to a report in TOI, not a single applicant could complete the registration in the initial 24 hours.
The glitches don’t stop at the inactive tabs, although that is the major reason for the non-completion and non-submission of the applications online.
Nisha Praveen, an aspirant, was befuddled initially, “I was able to populate the tabs for personal details, courses and the like, but the other tabs are frozen. Until they are filled in, I cannot proceed with even the payment. I understand there’s a lot of traffic on the website, but they could atleast defreeze the tab!”
The TOI report quotes Maharaja K Pandit, chairperson of DU’s admission committee as saying, “15,000 registrations had taken place so far. The aspirants have created the accounts. Since the academic details section is not activated, the process cannot be completed.”
The tab was not activated because the Board results have not been declared by CBSE. But, keeping the section inactive was also holding back candidate of other boards whose results have been declared. There were also certain confusions regarding course selections, that could have been solved had an information bulletin been released. To top off the woes of the aspirants, their CBSE board exam results have been delayed further.
Initially there have been delays because CBSE expressed its decision to do away with moderation, and wrote to DU to provide some concession for the students. The plea was refused and then High Court called CBSE’s decision to do away with moderation “irresponsible”. High court has ordered CBSE to stick by their policy of moderation this year, too. In the light of this, the results are expected to be delayed by a few more days.
