The outstation students, after securing admission look out for the next concern, which is availability of safe and comfortable accommodation. Apart from hostel facilities offered by the colleges, the University of Delhi (North Campus) also offers hostel facilities to female undergraduate applicants. One of these is DU’s Under Graduate Hostel for Girls
Kaushiki Parihar, a resident of the hostel shares her experience with University Express:
A hostel for undergraduate girl students of the North and South Campus of the University of Delhi Hostel is home away from home. Like every hostel this hostel also has various rules and regulations. One cannot go out after 8 pm and there are fixed schedules for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.
The hostel provides 2 study rooms and 3 TV rooms, along with facilities for games like basketball and badminton. The hostel provides you with all kinds of facilities except Wi-Fi which is the basic necessity of this generation.
The fee of the hostel is around Rs.30, 000 per annum.
Hostel conducts freshers’ party to welcome freshers and farewell for biding goodbye to the outgoing students. UGHG Hostel is beautiful place to stay. One cannot get over from the beauty of this hostel. Every conversation about my life ends with me telling the other person how beautiful this place is and how I would have stayed here all my life if I could. The hostel is surrounded by colourful bougainvillea and when the lights are turn on at night, these flowers are the loveliest to sit and stare at. The huge ground to the centre of the hostel is where girls sit in groups and talk or walk around or where one can lie down and stare the stars. The expanse of this hostel is huge.
The Hostel Complex is located at Mukherjee Nagar opposite Indra Vihar, nearest to the GTB Nagar metro station, which is very strategically positioned indeed. I am really fond of location of this place because one can find everything nearby, from stationery to grocery and other basic necessities and even autos and E-rickshaws are always available outside the gate. Let’s not forget about food: one can get the best momos, golgappas and sweet corn in the lanes of Indra Vihar and you will crave every evening to have it.
IS UGHG better than say, a college hostel or a PG accommodation?
I would always prefer UGHG. Though a PG accommodation will have less rules and restrictions than any hostel but PGs are rather expensive don’t prove facilities as Hostel do like Laundry etc.
College hostels and UGHG are same in terms of rules and regulations and facilities. Mostly student prefer the respective college hostels because it is in the campus. But UGHG has student from both north and south campus which helps one to know about other colleges too, sharing notes and gossips to events and fests. The feeling heightens during the fest season and exam time.
