Introducing you to the college that needs no introduction, Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) has consistently maintained its reputation of being the top DU college for commerce and allied courses. It is not uncommon to find students naming SRCC as their ‘dream’ college. Every student aspires for the best, and SRCC with its faculty and facilities, exposure and endeavour, stands out from the rest. Here’s a quick glance at what it actually is like to study at SRCC!
“SRCC: Naam to suna hi hoga?”
Chances are that you heard about SRCC even before you got acquainted with DU in entirety. The college has been robust in grooming its students professionally, and has been infamous for the sky-rocketing cut-offs. Goes without saying then, that it admits the best of the best, and houses faculty members who also happen to be the authors of most of the books recommended for the Commerce and Economics Courses. And so, it comes as no surprise that it received an A+ grade by NAAC last year.
“There are bragging rights”
While it is true that it the kind of, or the rank of the college that you finally get into doesn’t matter, as long as you make the best of the opportunities available, at the same time there is no arguing the fact that belonging to SRCC brings privileges by the very introduction.
“But, does that mean everyone keeps talking about numbers ALL THE TIME?”
Far from true. Granted, commerce and Economics are subjects that have number-crunching embedded in their matrix. Add to it the fact that everyone is competitive and a high scorer, and it gets intense. But books are not the only company they keep. The society scene in the college is very agile, and activities keep the humdrum alive. Vritti Gandhi, an alumna of the college says, “I have been involved in so much since day 1, college was anything but boring. The month I joined I volunteered in the SRCC Youth Conclave, and then I joined societies and it has been very engaging, throughout.”
“Doesn’t being a commerce college restrict the possibilities of pursuing my other interests here?”
Absolutely not. There are societies, as varying as History Society to Quiz and dramatics, creative writing, photography…you name it, they have it.
“SRCC ke alumni to phir bahut successful honge?”
Indeed. To name a few, there’s Arun Jaitley, Rakeysh omprakash Mehra, Gulshan Grover, Nimrat Kaur, Shiv Khera, Anshu Jain, Rana Kapoor, among others.
“Okay, where do you guys hangout?”
SRCC has the official canteen – of course. But what keeps the crowd thronging to it is Irfan’s Place that serves Maggi and other light snacks. Irfan’s Place is an open ground that is a delight to hangout at, whether chilling with friends, or sitting idle.
“Fest kaisa hota hai?”
SRCC’s annual cultural fest Crossroads is one of the most happening fests in North Campus, and attracts huge crowds and celebrities alike.
“I am considering SRCC as an option, so obviously I want to know about placements”
When it comes to SRCC, the placements are enviably robust. Placements quite literally strike gold here, with packages around INR 29 lacs being offered. It is indeed a placement haven.
