Ekphrasis’16, the Annual Festival of The Department of English, Maitreyi College

Ekphrasis’16, the Annual Festival organized by the Department of English, Maitreyi College is here – bigger and better! The two day event is packed with exciting seminars, talks, competitions and games.

On Day 1 of the fest on March 18, Prof. Christel Dewadawson, Head of the Department of English, DU will address the audience as the keynote speaker and launch the biannual newsletter ‘Dialectic’. This will be followed by a commendable line-up of speakers and scholars who are researchers in reputed universities, presenting in the National Seminar on ‘VISUALITIES: Politics, Power, Aesthetics’

March 19 is a thrilling day that has many events straight from morning till evening. The day kickstarts with student paper presentations at 9:30 am on the continued topic of Visualities. Next is a talk by graphic novelist and author of ‘Delhi Calm’, Vishwajyoti Ghosh on ‘Writing Visually: The Making of Visual Narratives’. Day 2 will also see a workshop directed by Ms Payal AP on ‘Comics- Methods and Histories’. The fest also offers fun games like Treasure Hunt and Beg-Borrow-Steal. Potterheads will assemble at Maitreyi College as they debate on whether Snape is a hero. Book-lovers can look forward to ‘Lit-Tourney’, a literature quiz on fictions. The department is also organizing an online Photo-story competition, the link to which can be found on their page.

Ekphrasis’16 offers serious discourses, intellectual discussions, fun games, exciting competitions and attractive prize money.
