NIRF Rankings: JNU beats DU and Jamia Millia, Becomes the Second Best University In India

The National Institutional Ranking Framework, accepted by Ministry of Human Resource Department, recently released the list of the top universities in India. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore came first out of a list of 100 universities. Delhi’s Jawaharlal University bagged the 2nd rank, with Delhi University at 8th rank and Jamia Millia Islamia at 12th, Amity University at 52nd, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University at 82ndThe universities were ranked on the basis of a number of parameters such as Teaching and Learning Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RPC), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception.

HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, regarding the controversial JNU stated, “JNU and Jadavpur University didn’t get rankings for Afzal guru and anti-India slogans but for good work done by students.”

Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia said that he was “elated at the news of JMI being ranked among the top 20 universities in the country. The university has come a long way and we hope to perform even better in the future”.

The NIRF also recently published the top 10 colleges in India, which had 6 colleges from DU, stating Miranda College as the best college in India. ARSD was ranked in ‘Top 5 Colleges of India’, beating LSR, which stood at the 7th position in NIRF rankings.
