Delhi Undergrads are breaking records with students receiving top salaries in placements. This placement season has marked big-scale placements in various colleges in Delhi. Students have been offered record salaries that even exceed average received by management students!

Prestigious colleges like St. Stephens bagged the highest package of Rs 40 lakh p.a while a Lady Shri Ram College for Women student  was offered an annual top salary of Rs 34 lakh p.a.

Among the top hirers in St. Stephens management consultancy firm Arthur D Little offered placement for an international role in Middle East. In Shri Ram College Of Commerce Parthenon-EY offered the highest package.

All the big firms in the industry are now more interested in recruiting students beyond B Schools and IIMs. This year comparatively average of 14 to 17 lakh were offered in IIM Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata during placements.

In a statement to The Economic Times, Danish Faruqui managing director of UG recruiting at Parthenon-EY said:

“In the past, we relied on IIT campuses for recruiting students at the undergraduate level. We have started going to Delhi University as it gives us a wider pool and a diverse set of candidates from different disciplines. Students from the top DU colleges are very bright. They have strong academic and extracurricular profile and are all-rounded, likable personalities that match our criterion.”

Rohin Kapoor, director education at Deloitte, said: “These students bring in a fresh perspective, which those who have done their master’s may not have. In areas of consulting there are many roles to fill, so they hire at these salaries. However these are just a handful of students who are the cream of the class and so companies don’t mind shelling out the big bucks.”

For most of the Delhi colleges first quarter of the placement season concluded at average salaries between 7-8 lakh which was nearly 6 lakh last year.

According to Smita Sharma, associate professor and placement in-charge at SRCC:

“This is the best placement year for us so far, both in terms of the highest package and the number of offers”

Companies like Parthenon-EY, Inshorts, Tresvista Financial Services, Google, Deloitte & Touche Consulting and PwC Acturial Services were among the top recruiters.
