Indraprastha College for Women inaugurated its Centre for Earth Studies on Wednesday. CES was conceptualised by IP College’s Principal Babli Moitra Saraf to have a point of research, programmes, projects, and activities exclusively meant for environmental protection and sustainable development.
“It is an interdisciplinary centre which will allow teachers and students to start pilot projects where they can work towards sustainable environment,” the Principal said.
CES has also launched a certificate course called Disaster Management and Risk Preparedness which will initially be open only to IP College students. Depending upon the response, students from other colleges will also be allowed to apply for the course next semester onwards.
As reported by Hindustan Times, support in terms of resources and faculty is provided by the college at present. Centre for Earth Studies will be a forum for researchers, academicians and people concerned about the environment. College students have lately been working on projects related to bird nesting and wildlife rescue. The centre will also formalise projects previously done by the Department of Environmental Studies and Eco club of IP College.
IP College has launched Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies this year. Among other things, CIS will conduct outreach programmes for migrant labours working in the campus. Both CES and CIS will run undergraduate research programmes among students enrolled in the college.
